Show #2 – April 19, 2007

First, thank you to everyone who found the show this past week. It’s been a great week, reading all your feedback, and making this new podcast a part of my daily life. Every day I find a little something to add to the show, and I really want the content of future shows to include your emails and voicemails! Thank you also for all the kind comments this past week on the blog and through email.

This week in the world of news, we find two big stories. The first one involves Puppet Up Uncensored at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Apparently, Brian Henson and the Puppet Up performers stole the show! Way to go, guys! Remember, you can also find fresh Puppet Up content on tbs.com. The second story is about good ol’ Statler & Waldorf. Their webcast on movies.com called “From the Balcony” has been nominated for a webby award! Go check out the videos on movies.com, and go register and vote for From the Balcony.

Other news stories involved the upcoming feature film “The Doubtful Guest”, based on a story by Edward Gorey. We also talk briefly about the passing of Roscoe Lee Brown (1925-2007), who played the narrator in the movie “Babe” done by the Jim Henson creature shop. Finally, ToughPigs.com is hosting the Young Muppet Fans Extravaganza at their website. Art and sculpture submissions can be sent in by April 30.

This is the last show before Earth Day on April 22, so we talk a little about the ABC Earth Day special which aired in 1990. This was a TV special that featured many, many celebrities talking about global concerns like deforestation and global warming, and presented the subject in a loose story format. The Muppets’ involvement in this special came in the form of a segment written by Jerry Juhl and Bill Prady.

After discussing the special, I play a few Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock songs which talk about how we really are all connected, and how the world can be a beautiful place, if we really look.

Any Muppet performers, past and/or present, who would like to be on the show, this is your open invitation! Send me an email and we’ll arrange to talk on the show! I know I would love to hear about people’s experience in puppetry and working for the Henson company, and I bet lots of other would enjoy that too.

That’s pretty much it for this week! Thank you to everyone who continues to link to The MuppetCast in your blogs and THANK YOU to the listeners who have donated to the show!

COMING NEXT WEEK: Among other things, an original idea i had for a new Muppet segment!

Have a great week! Send your email to me@muppetcast.com, or send me a voicemail at (614) 364-4270. Yaaaaaaaaay!!!
