Welcome to another edition of The MuppetCast! On this week’s show, puppeteer Terry Angus talks about his experiences performing with Jim Henson and the Muppets. Listener BJ also joins me for a segment as we talk about obscure and overlooked Muppet characters. This, along with all the Muppet news and trivia you’ve come to know and love makes this a can’t miss episode!
Special thanks to our sponsors, Orlando Attractions Magazine and Bell, Book & Comic. Take a trip to Orlando, because life should be more fun!
The next MuppetCast road trip will take us to Atlanta, GA this September. The Center for Puppetry Arts is celebrating their 30th anniversary, and I’ll be there to cover it and bring back my experiences for the podcast. You’re gonna love it!
The Road Trip DVD with Jane Hunt is officially shipping! All donors to the show will receive a free copy in the mail. Just make sure I have your mailing address when you donate. Highlights of the video include a walkthrough tour of parts of the Hunt homestead (including Richard’s old bedroom), lots and lots of puppets and pictures, and the presentation to Jane of a baby quilt made for her new great grandchild, made by MuppetCast listener Erin Roll.
The Jim Henson Company is set to air the very first episodes of Sid the Science Kid this week on PBS. Check local listings for airdates and times. This new series helps to promote science-readiness in preschoolers in a fun new way, and as one of the first new shows from Henson to use the Henson Digital Puppetry System, make sure to see what all the talk is about!
Wired News is a widely known and respected technology magazine. It’s not the first place you’d consult to find an opinion piece on the Muppets. But that’s just what you’ll find here, in an author’s thoughts on the Washington DC appearance of Jim Henson’s Fantastic World.
There’s a rumor that the success of the new Muppet film, being written by Jason Segel and Nick Stoller, may lead to a new Muppet TV series, which Mr. Segel is allegedly already working on. Take it with a grain of salt, but it’s always nice to think about at any rate.
Tuesday, Sept 2 will see a new book release, Jim Henson’s Doodle Dreams (penned by Muppet writer Jim Lewis). Pick it up at your favorite bookstore, or at Amazon.com via The MuppetCast.
Listener Colin recently got to visit the Sesame Street: The Body exhibit in Canada, and he put some photos up on his flickr page.
Ed D from Australia points out that Muppets, Music & Magic, a traveling Henson exhibit put on by the Jim Henson Legacy, will be in Melbourne, Australia, from September 4 – 14. Enjoy, mate!
Kirby from bartlett-sloan.net sent a video link to something he shot 9 years ago in China: the Chinese version of Sesame Street! Take a look and listen.
